FCCLA:   Any FCCLA member interested in attending National Cluster Meeting needs to meet with Mrs. Billings ASAP.

 

FCCLA:   FCCLA Officer meeting Tuesday Sept. 7 during seminar in Mrs. Billings’ room.

 

FCCLA:  FCCLA general meeting Wed. Sept. 8 during seminar for all students interested in joining FCCLA. Students who have taken or currently enrolled in a FACS class may join.

 

STUDENT SECTION SHIRTS:  deadline to order is Thursday, Sept. 2nd.  $10 must be paid when you order.  Sign up in the office.

The following common courtesies are expected of our students during lunch:

·         Please do not crowd ahead of others in line. 

·         Please do not talk loudly, make unwanted noise, push and/or shove one another.

·         Please do not throw food, napkins, or utensils.

·         All trash/trays in your area must be disposed of properly.

·         Add it all up:  If you spill something, clean it up.  If you drop something, pick it up.  Treat yourselves and others with respect and courtesy.

 

A LA CARTE:  The cafeteria on Wednesday was a disaster:  trash was on the tables and under the tables, trays were thrown away in the garbage can, gum was tossed in the milk cooler, students were rude and disrespectful when told that they had to have more items on their trays.  NO A LA CARTE UNTIL THE MHS STUDENT BODY CAN DEMONSTRATE RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR IN THE CAFETERIA. 

 

DENTAL SCREENINGS: for all  students next Wednesday, September 8th in the MMS Art room. 

 

The following Junior/Seniors that have not turned their drug forms in yet:  Ashley Garth, Cory Hiebert, Josh Hiebert, Lance Knolla, Andrew Schaefer

Next week you will have closed lunch unless the forms are turned in by Tuesday morning to Mr Gordon or Mrs Versch.

 

The Eligibility List / Mandatory Study will start Monday, September 13th.    Progress reports will  go out on Friday, September 17th.

 

CLASS MEETINGS:  will be this Friday during seminar(except for Freshmen) Sophomores in Mr. Molleker’s room, Juniors in Mr. Craft’s room and Seniors in Mrs. Billing’s room.

 

CHEERLEADERS:   please come to the office  and pick up your cheer bags.

 

Any NHS student who is interested in working at the Florence Labor Day Celebration needs to let Mrs. Johnson know ASAP.  This would be great community service.

 

Anyone interested in the 2012 trip to the Mediterranean (possibly Greece & Italy) needs to meet with Mrs. Johnson Friday during seminar.

Team that sells the most by Sept. 20th WINS a PIZZA party for lunch!!!!!  Please turn in order slips and money to your team captains on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

 

On – Line ACT practice accounts are available to MHS students. Any student who plans to take the ACT this year should get the information for the on-line prep. This is provided to MHS students by USD 408 at no cost to the students. Check with the counselor to pick up this log in information.

 

The 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards – Any student 9 – 12 who has completed extensive community service or volunteer work may go to the http://spirit.prudential.com and submit an application on line.

 

Voice of Democracy – Scholarship competition is available from the counseling office. This competition is for grades 9 -12. Contact PJ for more information.

LIBRARY BOOK SALE:  continues until the end of next week.  Come pick up some good reading.

 

Sophomores and Juniors who are the top 15% of their class academically are encouraged to sign up to take the PSAT test which is schedule for October 13th. Contact Mrs. Janzen for more information. Students need to sign up for the PSAT and bring a check for $13.00 made out to Marion High School. Sign up is open until September 10th.  

 

Upcoming testing for freshman and sophomores for the PLAN and EXPLORE test on Wednesday, September 8th. sophomores in the morning and freshman in the afternoon at the city building.

 

Students interested in becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister to an elementary student, please contact Mrs. Janzen to pick up the application form. Those who were bigs last year will be matched by the end of September again. THIS COUNTS AS VOLUNTEER AND COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS!

 

Youth Court will have their first meeting and training on Monday in September 27th at 6 PM at the Marion County Court House.  Let Mrs. Janzen know if you plan to participate in Youth Court.  THIS COUNTS AS COMMUNITY SERVICE!! EVERYONE NEEDS COMMUNITY SERVICE AND VOLUNTEER SERVICE FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS!

 

FCCLA:  Those students currently enrolled or who have taken a Family and Consumer Sciences course at MHS are eligible to join FCCLA.  Early bird special dues are $11 until September 8, after that date dues are $13.  Pay dues to Mrs. Billings.

 

2010 Yearbooks:  The yearbook staff has just a handful of the 2010 Warrior yearbooks left.  If interested in purchasing one, see Ms. Odgers in the office.  Price is $45.  Don’t miss out!

 

Scholarship Updates:

 

W. Frank Barton School of Business 21st Annual Scholarship Competition: November 12, 2010 for those students who are interested in Business at WSU. I have the application for this scholarship competition. The first 60 qualified may test.  Talk to the counselor if you are interested.  ASAP

 

Seniors: If you participate in at least ONE sport, have at least one leadership position, apply NOW for the Wendy’s High School Heisman at www.wendysheisman.com. The first 41,100 applicants get a wendy’s gift card which could range from $5.00 to $50.00… GO FOR IT!  ONLY ONE SENIOR HAS COMPLETED THIS SO FAR!!!
